An independent, relationship-first view of the Common Service Data Model version 5 — connecting strategy and design to build, deployed service instances, service offerings, consumption, portfolio oversight, and foundational data.
Interactive CSDM 5 Focused Model
Filter by lifecycle domain or select a concept to see its working definition, relationships, and a plain-language example.
The model deliberately focuses on a useful relationship spine rather than reproducing every CSDM class. Selecting a node reveals which parts are interpretation and where release-specific verification matters.
What The Model Explains
How an idea becomes a designed application, a deployed service, and something a customer or business unit can consume.
The left-to-right path begins with strategic priorities, product ideas, business capabilities, business applications, and information objects. It then connects build artefacts to deployed application and infrastructure services, through technology management services and offerings, and finally to business services, offerings, and catalogue items. Portfolio and foundation concepts provide oversight and shared reference data across that path.
How To Use It
Start with the business capability and business application to agree what the organisation needs and what logical application supports it.
Trace the business application into its deployed application service and the infrastructure configuration items on which it runs.
Follow the supporting technology management service and offering into the business-facing service and offering.
Use the catalogue item and consuming organisation to check whether the service is actually requestable and clearly owned.
Check portfolio, organisation, product-model, lifecycle, and ownership data before relying on downstream reporting.
Confirm the resulting design against official ServiceNow documentation and the data model available in your own release and licensed products.
